What Not To Do When Testing Your Email
It is rare that I get an email at work that makes me laugh out loud. After having to argue with Time Warner Cable for 30 minutes today, the email gods must have known I needed a good laugh. I’m sure many of you have sent out test emails within your office or to a group. You know, just making sure you entered all the right settings in Outlook or MailChimp – making sure things look right and all that jazz.
We get quite a few emails from various services, and today, one of those vendors was obviously doing some testing on their servers. This is what I opened (names omitted to protect the clueless):
Ha! While this gave me a good laugh, you know my PR brain kicked in and I immediately wondered what would happen to poor “E” and how they would handle it. Just a few minutes later, I got this from “E”:
I will give them credit – their response was quick (within five minutes) and “E” took full responsibility for his mistake. My guess is there are a lot of internal conversations happening at that company right now. I can only assume they are making sure that no one makes that mistake again, checking that their consumers are happy and ensuring the crisis has been averted.
Lesson of the Day: Make sure you are ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE about who is on the receiving end of your emails, bitchez!
